Worship the Lord

Psalm 100:1-5

“Make a joyful shout to the LORD, all you lands!

Serve the LORD with gladness;
Come before His presence with singing.

Know that the LORD, He is God;
It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves;
We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.

Enter into His gates with thanksgiving,
And into His courts with praise.
Be thankful to Him,
and bless His name.

For the LORD is good;
His mercy
is everlasting,
And His truth
endures to all generations.”

The following message shows 3 main points about the act of worship and how to pursue a relationship with God

1. Put relationship with God first and live in His presence.

  • Remove what hinders you in your relationship with God

      • Matt 16:24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.”
      • 1 John 3:9 “Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God.”

  • Forgive others as Christ forgave you

      • Matt 6:14-15 “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”

  • Be cleansed by His blood

      • 1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

  • Know and obey the Word of God

      • Ps 119:11 “Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You.”
      • Joshua 1:8 “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”

  • Seek His presence

      • Ps 27:8 “When You said, “Seek My face,” My heart said to You, “Your face, LORD, I will seek.”
      • 1 Chron 16:11 “Seek the LORD and His strength; Seek His face evermore!”
      • Acts 17:27-28 “so that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us; for in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also His offspring.’”

2. Engage with the Spirit of God in Worship

  • God is Spirit and so are we

      • John 4:24 “God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”
      • Gen 1:27 “So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.”

  • God has a plan and expectation for each of our lives

      • Jer 1:5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.”

  • Come to Him and expect to encounter His presence

      • Psalm 100:4 “Enter into His gates with thanksgiving,
        And into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.”

  • Worship opens us up to allow Him to flow through us and into the world

3. Express our love to God through worship and purity

  • Come into His presence by faith

      • Heb 11:6 “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.”

  • Set Him as a seal upon your heart

      • Song of Solomon 8:6 “Set Me as a seal upon your heart, As a seal upon your arm;
        For love
        is as strong as death, Jealousy as cruel as the grave; Its flames are flames of fire, A most vehement flame.”

  • Worship is love expressed

      • Matt 22:36-38 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment.”

  • Abide in love

      • 1 John 4:12-16 “No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God abides in us, and His love has been perfected in us. By this we know that we abide in Him, and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit. And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son as Savior of the world. Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.”

  • Love grows & Love leaks out

      • 1 Thes 3:12-13 “And may the Lord make you increase and abound in love to one another and to all, just as we do to you, so that He may establish your hearts blameless in holiness before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all His saints.”
      • Phil 1:9-11 ” And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment, that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ, being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.”
